NaNoWriMo Thoughts:
Everywhere, everyone is talking about NaNoWriMo. I will be honest. I admire those who can do it. I can’t. I don’t have the stamina or drive to write that much every single day for a month. And especially not in November. What about Thanksgiving? That kills almost a week of writing for me right there. The shopping. The cleaning. The cooking. Not to mention how tired I am after the whole thing. I wouldn’t even want to read what I wrote that week. It would be nothing short of awful!
Actually, it wouldn’t matter which month it was. December brings the holidays. January and February are too depressing. Spring makes me want to go outside. You get the idea. Actually, sometimes I write quite a bit, especially if you count blogs, press releases, freelance work, etc. Other days, I don’t write anything. I take a break.
Actually, I really do applaud those writers who can do it – whether they succeed or not. It is very special that an entire community of writers is basically working at one time, jointly trying to achieve the same goal. Pretty amazing!
One last thought on NaNoWriMo – how exactly is Amazon involved? I was clicking around on the NaNoWriMo site and saw it was powered by Amazon. Just wondering…
Random Unrelated Thought:
I’ve been thinking quite a bit how I don’t get to watch much television. I’m not complaining but I also sometimes wonder how many good shows I’m missing. The only show I’m sure is good is The Newsroom. I’m way behind in episodes (happens when you watch On Demand) but the writing is so good, I also have to watch the clips at the end explaining how they came up that episode. I will take any recommendations for any other well-written show but if you haven’t seen The Newsroom, give it a try!
Another Random Unrelated Thought:
Although I haven’t seen much series television, I do see a bit of football. It’s usually on in the background even when I’m doing other things. One thing I really enjoy is NBC’s Football Night in America. Why? Because I think Dan Patrick is great before the show and at halftime. Because Chris Collinsworth and Al Michaels do a great job during the game. Because Jon Grudin, while great on ESPN with his quarterback interviews, talks WAY too much during Monday Night Football. Just my opinion.

Maybe it’s all this random thinking (and not writing) that keeps me from attempting NaNoWriMo.

I was going to do NaNo for next month, but I got novel-burnt-out. So for next month, I’m working on 3 short stories to submit to magazines (online or print). I can’t write anything longer at the moment, not while I’m editing the novels I already have.

I’m doing NaNo this year for the first time. While I’m submitting my first novel to agents and publishers, I need a new project to work on. I have a second novel sketched out in my head and thought NaNo would be the kick I need to get going. It helps, also, that Canadian Thanksgiving is in October.
Seems like a great way to start a new project. Keep me posted on your novel – I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!
